Caterina is the portrait of one of the foremost performers and researchers of traditional rural folk song in Italy, Caterina Bueno. Her work made it possible to recover and disseminate a vast repertoire of songs that had been passed down orally until the twentieth century and that, from the 1960s onward, were otherwise destined to be forgotten. A life divided between research and performance led Caterina to stages across Italy and abroad, making her an essential figure in the cultural landscape of her time. Caterina also traces a meaningful arc of the social and cultural transformation Italy has undergone since the years of the economic boom, and more broadly reflects on the relationship between a country, its community, and its historical memory and cultural heritage.
