circle

directed by Valentina Monti | 2016 / 70′

it all begins with a caravan and a big top. Beneath the canvas, men and animals share their precarious and demanding destinies. We are speaking of the oldest of spectacles: the circus. And to say circus is to say Togni, one of the longest-standing and most important circus dynasties in Europe. Through the unique materials of the family archive, from 8mm and Super 8 to VHS and Mini DV, Circle unfolds a story as circular as the arena of wild beasts and the seasons of life. An inverted fairy tale whose protagonists are a lion tamer inside a cage and a dancer on horseback. The legendary love story between Darix and Fiorenza gives rise to a brave lineage. To Fiorenza’s gaze, always turned toward her Darix, is joined that of a very special narrator, watching men move within the arena of life.
