ghosts in ferrania

directed by Diego Scarponi | 2021 / 79′

ferrania is a place, a factory, a brand recognized worldwide that, for decades, shaped the history of photography and cinema in Italy. Today, however, Ferrania is a desolate territory, home to many former factory workers searching for a new direction. From the installation of an explosives plant in the hamlet of Ferrania in 1915, through the Fascist era, the long period marked by the leadership of Engineer Luigi Schiatti, the acquisition by the American company 3M, the labor struggles, the speculation and the mistakes, the story leads to a near-lunar landscape of abandonment. It is here that the film’s protagonists move and where, despite everything, new entrepreneurial initiatives are still trying to be reborn.
