the prince of ostia bronx

directed by Raffaele Passerini | 2017 / 61’/75′

warning: this film is intended for viewers who have failed at least once in their lives.

Dario and Maury, two actors rejected by the theatre, the Academy, and the film industry, decide to move their stage to the gay nudist beach of Capocotta, near Ostia, Rome. People come here seeking freedom, a place without rules. Through the perseverance of their poetic vision, one that sees failure as a new form of victory, Dario and Maury earn, over twenty years, the affection of a loyal audience, along with the titles of Prince and Countess. This film irreverently celebrates failure as parody, turning anyone who wishes into a Prince or a Countess, at least for a day.

the Prince of Ostia Bronx is an experimental work with folk and kitsch overtones, accompanied by original music ranging from pop and disco to electronic sounds. The film features a repertoire of previously unreleased tracks composed by Rossano Baldini, in collaboration with the director (who co-wrote and performed several of the songs) which dialogue with selected gems of Italian and international singer-songwriter music, from Antonello Venditti and Pierangelo Bertoli to Gala.

an ultra-low-budget film that, after winning multiple awards at the Biografilm Festival in Bologna, went on to secure theatrical release in Italy, distributed directly by Kiné in collaboration with Movieday
