the train to moscow

directed by Federico Ferrone, Michele Manzolini | 2013 / 70′

the end of a world seen through the eyes, and the 8mm footage, of Sauro Ravaglia, a Communist barber. It is 1957 in Alfonsine, one of the many towns of “red” Romagna devastated by the war. Sauro and his friends dream of a world of peace, brotherhood, and equality: they dream of the Soviet Union. The opportunity of a lifetime arrives, the chance to visit Moscow during the World Festival of Socialist Youth. Sauro and his comrades arm themselves with a movie camera to film the great journey. But what happens when you set out to film a utopia and find yourself face to face with reality?
